February 2018<\/h1>\n

\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/p>\n

February 2018 started out with a beach walk in Ocean Beach.\u00a0 I began my walk on the designated trails next to Smiley Lagoon.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I thought it would be nice to see the lagoon from the opposite side of my usual visits there.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I was grateful for the synchronicity and opportunities of a low tide.\u00a0 \u00a0I saw some small fish in an isolated pool of water stranded until the tide returned.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I hoped to get out as far as I could to get more closeup shots of some of the birds in the lagoon and the estuary.\u00a0 I saw several folks where I would like to be for the photos, so my hopes were high.\u00a0 All my hope quickly dissipated when I found myself in sticky mud and did not want to venture past that point.\u00a0 I think I realized the tide would probably get to me quicker than I could get back to a safe spot.\u00a0 I wrapped up my walk on the trails here and headed back to the surf at Dog Beach.\u00a0 I headed down the beach for a nice walk past the jetties and onward to the pier.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The tide was still low allowing for quality time under the pier and in the tidal pools.\u00a0 I had fun exploring and taking in the diversity and beauty of nature.\u00a0 I walked back to the car enjoying the last bit of my journey to Ocean Beach that day. February 6th and 7th were workdays for me in Mission Valley.\u00a0 I like to get some exercise in with walks along the river before work.\u00a0 When inspiration strikes I get in some photography as well.\u00a0 I don’t always take the camera on my walks.\u00a0 I do like to enjoy nature and walking without the added photography work.\u00a0 Of course, I usually happen to see something (like the Double-crested Cormorant pictured below) that I would have loved to photograph.\u00a0 Most of the time I do choose to take the camera as I did on these two days.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

On the 6th I saw the cormorant above and various other birds such as the American Coot, Common Moorhen, and Gadwalls shown here.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Grateful to have my camera with me on February 7th for my walk along the river.\u00a0 I snapped a few shots of a hummingbird, several images of Black-crowned night heron, and a Nuttall’s Woodpecker.\u00a0 You’ll find the galleries and images from this shoot and more on my Mission Valley<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

On the 8th of February I decided to venture up the coast to San Elijo Lagoon at Cardiff for a nature and photography walk.\u00a0 You can see the rest of the images on my San Elijo Lagoon<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

For the rest of my journey to north county I decided to make a short stop at Swami’s Beach in Encinitas.\u00a0 For more here’s a link to my Encinitas<\/a> photography page.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I wanted to go one more place to capture images and take another nature walk.\u00a0 Always a favorite, my final spot for the day was Famosa Slough<\/a>.\u00a0 The time was good for the light and the slough is great for nature photography.\u00a0 Waterfowl and other birds that visit Famosa Slough are always a treat for me.\u00a0 I love watching, identifying, and photographing the diversity of birds at this location.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The 9th of February I thought it would be nice to take a walk and explore more of the trails at Marian R. Bear Natural Park<\/a>.\u00a0 On my visit last year I only ventured the trails on the west side of Clairemont Drive.\u00a0 I started on the East side of Clairemont Drive this time.\u00a0 After a bit of walking along the San Clemente Creek and a few of the canyon trails I decided to go back to the other side.\u00a0 It was a warm day for February.\u00a0 I found that the east side of the park here was dry, warm, and mostly still winter dormant.\u00a0 I discovered the west side was completely opposite.\u00a0 It was shady, moist and green.\u00a0 The temperature was several degrees cooler, the landscape was springing forth with greenery and looking more like a springtime forest.\u00a0 Nasturtiums were about to bloom on this side of the park.\u00a0 It was interesting to see how dramatically the terrain can change the micro climate from one section of the canyon to the next.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

After leaving Marian Bear I found myself venturing back to Famosa Slough<\/a>.\u00a0 My timing was similar to the previous day with the light.\u00a0 One more short walk and a few bird photos completed my desire for exercise and adventure that day.\u00a0 \u00a0I love the joy that being in nature brings and the opportunities it provides to express my creative nature.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I did more nature walks along my usual haunts such as San Diego River<\/a> and Famosa Slough<\/a> for the remainder of the month.\u00a0 I also ventured out around San Diego Bay with stops at Pepper Park in National City and Bayside Park In Chula Vista and Shoreline Park on Shelter Island.\u00a0 I did not take photos in National City.\u00a0 Image and text links for those dates and locations are shown next followed by published and revised pages.<\/p>\n
